The general economic situation in Finland weakened further, whereas in Europe the crisis sentiment shifted to cautious growth expectations during the year. The strengthening U.S. economy and robust dollar also created confidence that the opportunities of euro-zone export companies would improve. At the end of the year, the economic sanctions imposed on Russia as a result of its actions, as well as the price of oil and the crash of the ruble, led to increased economic uncertainty in Finland.

Japan's Minister of Economy Daishiro Yamagiwa visited Koskisen Oy

Japan's State Minister of Economy, Trade and Industry, Dr. Daishiro Yamagiwa visited Finland on the 11 – 12th January 2015. The Minister was familiarised with Finnish industry and Koskisen Oy was chosen as a representative of the timber industry.

Finnish birch is an ideal solution for the interior of concert halls both in terms of acoustic and visual properties.

Koskisen delivered gallery elements and a plafond measuring 16 metres in diameter to a concert hall to be built in Katowice, Poland. The solutions were manufactured from BirchUp panels, which combine birch plywood and sawn birch. The customer’s choice for the concert hall’s material was largely based on the excellent acoustic properties and beautiful appearance of Finnish birch plywood.

Koskisen, known for its apprenticeship training programmes, is about to launch its Koskisen Academy project, which aims to hire 20 young adults to complete a qualification through an apprenticeship.

The programme will begin in spring 2014 and will be carried out under a so-called Youth Guarantee in co-operation with AEL, Finland’s leading human resource development partner and provider of technical training. The Finnish Youth Guarantee extends to individuals under the age of 30 who have not yet completed a qualification.

At the end of November, Koskisen became the third sawn timber manufacturer in Finland to be granted fire-retardant certification for its products. In line with the new certification, Koskisen now manufactures for the Finnish market wood panels and exterior cladding boards that have been treated with a fire-retardant coating.
