Koskisen intensifies co-operation between the sawmills in Russia and Hirvensalmi
Koskisen’s sawmills operating in Sheksna (Russia) and Hirvensalmi (Finland) form a sizeable production unit in the future.
Along with the tight co-operation Koskisen can deliver large quantities and thus serve even big customers more quickly and efficiently. The overall production volume of the two sawmills is about 50 % bigger than that of the present production capacity of Hirvensalmi.
Active dialogue
Timo Linna is in charge of the export sales of timber as well as optimizing the production functions of Sheksna and Hirvensalmi sawmills. Linna has operated as Product manager of birch sawn timber products from the beginning of the year. According to Linna, the biggest challenge is matching the sales and production of the two different countries and production plants.
- Combining the operations demands active communication and good co-operation for the part of raw material, sales and stock levels. There has been a very positive attitude towards the co-operation in both units and it has started running smoothly.
For the benefit of the customers
Timo Linna says that a part of the customers have already understood the benefits of the new operation model. Along with grown production capacity Koskisen intends to serve e.g. the customers in Great Britain and the Far East better, since they have a lot of potential. The orders of the domestic customers are still mainly delivered from the Hirvensalmi sawmill. In the export orders we utilize the know-how of both the sawmills. From which sawmill the ordered products will be delivered is determined by e.g. the raw material situation, timber measures and the technical properties of the facilities.
- By combining the operations we are aiming for the benefit of the Group which is shown as better service for the customers, summarizes Linna the advantages of the synergy.
