Quality starts from the raw material that we use

Wood raw material

The wood raw material we use

The high quality of our products starts in the forest with the raw material we use.  Due to the tight co-operation between our own wood procurement organisation and our factories, we can optimise the wood into different log lengths according to the qualitative and quantitative needs of the factories.

We practice forestry ecologically,  carrying out fellings and utilising the raw material accurately. Utilising the whole log is in the common interest of both our factories and the forest owner. Optimising the cutting of the tree in the forest ensures it’s efficient use by our factories and at the same time enables the most effective log recovery from the point of view of the forest owner.

We constantly develop the expertise of our woodsmen and contractors in quality, felling, forestry and environmental issues. With our versatile training we have been able to influence  the meeting of wood procurement goals and improve the quality of both our factories and our customers’ products.

Part trunk method ensures accurate recovery of the log

The part trunk method we use is unique in Finland. It means that only the fibre part of the trunk is cut and the log part (up to 20 metres in length) is delivered to our sawmill.

We use the part trunk method in our intensive final felling coniferous stands. This method and the resulting long log lengths enables our sawmill to quickly and flexibly process customer-specific sawn timber deliveries. From the viewpoint of the forest owner the method we use enables the maximum use of the log and thus provides the maximum monetary return.
