Chopin's visiting card

The Polish National Library exhibited the world's largest collection of the Chopin's original manuscripts during 25.9.-11.11.2010. The exhibition's leading themes are the sources of inspiration, creative process, and wealth of forms used by Fryderyk Chopin. Interactive applications and audio exhibitions accompany these rare artifacts enabling visitors to enjoy the aural aspect of the exhibition.

The goal of the sets, designed by Boris Kudlička and the WWAA group, is to take visitors to another reality, the composer's abstract world, where his music and inimitable style are guide visitors through the halls. The abstract installation takes audiences through successive exhibition rooms to become a guide through Chopin's creative process. Initially chaotic, tangled single ribbons that symbolize coalescing melodies merge through free improvisation, and smooth out, to ultimately become a perfect work - a form with fluid shapes filling the nine meter Caryatid Hall. Thin strips of plywood and the technology required to bend it bring to mind the production of a musical instrument and the writing of the piece of music itself.

Koskisen was the supplier of all plywood for this exhibition. All the machinings of the panels as well as supervision of installation was made by Koskisen. The strips of plywood were made from Koskisen's KoskiPly birch 5mm panels. All together the area contained over 700 meters of ribbons in 40mm width.

KoskiPly was selected to this case due to its beauty and possibilities to form in different directions. The exhibitor, ie. the National Library of Poland, as well as the architects and decoration designers are very happy with the outcome of the ribbons.
